You know the signs: the darkened screen … a slash through the “Charge” icon … a background beep. Your cell phone battery is dead!
And usually it happens just as you were about to make or take an important call.
Keep Your Cell Phone Charged and Updated
Fortunately, the lithium ion battery in your cell phone is rechargeable. By plugging it in overnight and as needed during the day – when you use it a lot – you can recharge it. Recharging during the day is especially important when you make and take many calls and texts, regularly access the Internet, or take advantage of videos, games, extra graphics, and Bluetooth technology.
Plus, from time to time your cell phone manufacturer updates software. Link ups and downloads mean you can be fully updated to the manufacturer’s latest specifications and new releases for you and your phone.
The Cell Phone and the Christian Life
The life of a charged cell phone is very similar to a Christian life connected with God. Like a cell phone, Christians need their spiritual batteries charged every day to manage life’s ups and downs, to serve others, and to continue to grow closer to Christ. Occasionally you need an additional charge during a day that is particularly draining or when you have been using extra spiritual resources. And sometimes you simply need to get away with God to get fully updated as to what He has for you – just like your phone needs a software upgrade.
You’re familiar with what happens when you don’t keep connected with God regularly: Exhaustion. Ineffectiveness. Burnout. As Christ-followers, are we as diligent in recharging our relationship with Christ as we are in recharging our phones?
By all means, charge your phone every day and make sure it’s updated. Use it as much as you can and get the most from your technology.
And treat your daily walk with Christ the same way. Recharge daily. Take extra time with God during days that are especially taxing. Make a point to draw apart with Him regularly to get fully connected so you can be an effective follower and servant.
Just a bit of intentionality keeps your relationship with God recharged all day. Every day.
